Agent shares her top tips to succeed in honour of International Women's Day

With a career spanning more than three decades, Caboolture real estate agent Robyn Lachmund loves helping families find the property that is right for them.

Mrs Lachmund became interested in selling real estate after making the move from Sydney to Caboolture 33 years ago with her husband, two teenage children and her father.

Since that life-changing moment, Mrs Lachmund worked hard and became a founding director of Richardson & Wrench Caboolture, a job she still loves today.

“I love the challenge of finding the right home for families as well as helping families grow, change, upgrade or retire,” Mrs Lachmund said.

“I have been lucky to have met and worked with many families over the years and now I am helping the children I have met, who are now themselves looking to buy.”

Establishing herself as an agent and helping to set up a new agency came with challenges, especially in an industry she described a “male’s domain”.

“Sadly, I don’t think much has changed in the workspace for women real estate agents. A career in sales is still perceived as a male’s domain,” Mrs Lachmund said.

“Having said this, women I believe are much better at understanding the needs of a family.

“Women also take more pride in the process of selling and buying.”

Words of wisdom 

As someone who has done the hard yards in the business sector, Mrs Lachmund has plenty of advice to pass on to the next generation of women, which she is sharing for International Women’s Day.

“Work for someone else first. Listen and learn from others. Not everything is learned from the book or a quick three days of orientation,” she said.

“If you ask the best women agents in our field of sales, they will tell you to gain some life experiences early on in your career.

“When I was starting my career, I made sure that I attended and joined as many local clubs and women’s groups where I was able to form long-time relationships with so many of our very prominent women in Moreton Bay and beyond.

“I have had the privilege of being a past President of Business and Professional Women, president and still member of Commerce Caboolture, founding member of Better Together, a not-for-profit group, and Shire Citizen of the Year for Caboolture.

“Of all these I am most proud to say I have mentored many of our young businesswomen of today in Moreton Bay.

“One of my favourite sayings is ‘you catch more bees with honey than you do with vinegar’, so smile as you walk away.

“Most of all, leave the door open to come back through if and when needed.”
