The figures are in and the top Lotto-winning outlets in the Moreton Bay Region during 2021 been revealed.

Kensington Village Newsagency in Bray Park led the way with almost $4 million of prizes won by customers last year.

The final figure of $3,825,904.03 was largely made up of the region’s biggest single winner - $3,062,082.06 in the Saturday Gold Lotto draw on February 20.

“I can’t stop shaking! This is unreal,” the winner said at the time, vowing to pay off his mortgage, buy a flash new car and travel around the world.

In second place was Midway News, at Redcliffe, with $2,198,742.38, again made up of a major win - $1,596,016.92 in the Saturday Gold Lotto on January 2.

The prize went to a syndicate of ten Redcliffe players who held one of 19 winning tickets in a Saturday Gold Lotto $30 Million Megadraw.

Third was Nextra Bribie Island with $1,681,111.95, but no wins on the scale of the Bray Park and Redcliffe outlets.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said winners from this region had been some of the most colourful of 2021.

“One of the most memorable stories was of a Bray Park man who had forgotten his partner’s birthday but at the last minute gave her an Instant Scratch-Its ticket that ended up winning $100,000,” he said.

“Even the winner admitted it hadn’t been a great start to her birthday, but things quickly turned around when the prize was revealed. I’m sure the partner was also quite relieved as well.”

In April, a Burpengary couple paid off their mortgage after winning $100,000 on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket bought at TSG Burpengary News in Burpengary Plaza.

They initially thought it was $10,000 until double checking. “We counted the number of words we had on the ticket again and realised we’d actually won $100,000!” said the wife.

Three months later, in July, a Strathpine woman gave herself an unforgettable birthday present - a $25,000 top prize-winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket from Nextra Strathpine.

“I bought the ticket on my birthday and left it in my bag,” she said at the time. “I completely forgot it was there until a couple of days ago, so I scratched it straight away.

“When I saw the prize amount on the ticket, I went numb.”

Mr Hart said Moreton Bay Region had fared well in 2021 across all divisions and prize tiers including two major division one Saturday Gold Lotto.

“There were also quite a few substantial Instant Scratch-Its prizes won as well," he said.

“Breaking the life-changing news to our major prize winners was especially rewarding as they shared with us their hopes and dreams for their windfalls.

“Some of the most common plans are to buy a new home, help family and friends, and also enjoy some much-needed holidays.

“While some outlets saw more wins than others last year, it’s important to remember that a lottery win can land anywhere. Who knows where the region’s next big win might land!”
