Beloved burger joint Beardy’s Bar & Kitchen has been given an extra month before it has to leave its Kippa-Ring home of five years.
Owners Lee and Ross Willson found out last month they would have to move, after the property’s owners filed a development application for the Elizabeth Ave site.
They were to have been out by June 1, but Lee says they can now stay until July 1 with the owner’s development application still progressing through Moreton Bay Regional Council.
On February 7, Town Planning Alliance lodged a development application with Council for 403 and 405-407 Elizabeth Ave, Kippa-Ring on behalf of OneFin Kippa-Ring Pty Ltd.
The application is for a two into three lot subdivision, while supporting documents show plans for two fast food outlets, as well as converting an existing building into a gymnasium.
“We’ve been given another month here, so that was a good plus, and we’re working on finding a place at the moment but there’s a few hurdles that have still got to be overcome but we are quietly confident,” Lee says.
Planning for the future
“We’re more confident this week than we were last week.
“Hopefully it will all come together and we will have an update soonish.”
Since they posted the news on the Beardy’s Facebook page, Lee says they’ve been overwhelmed by support from customers.
“I can’t even read a lot of the comments (on social media) because I keep crying.
“We’ve had lots of positive feedback – even people offering us their backyards,” Lee laughs.
“The community support has been fantastic, so we’re going to hopefully reward loyal customers with a bigger, brighter version of what we do – Beardy’s 2.0.
“We have looked at a number of spots and we’re trying to find the right fit, especially with our big one-tonne smoker that comes with us.”
