Boost for Brennan Park

New play equipment, seating and picnic shelters are among the features of an upgrade for Bongaree’s popular Brennan Park.

Mayor Peter Flannery says the improvements will ensure residents and visitors continue to flock to the park.

“Brennan Park is a prime example of what makes Bribie Island so beautiful, with its incredible outlook over Pumicestone Passage, the abundant birdlife and the quiet, shady spots to gather with friends and family,” Mayor Flannery says.

“It is close to Bongaree Jetty, so you can launch your craft for a spot of fishing, and close to popular eateries to enjoy the fresh catch of the day.

“Because Brennan Park is such a calling card for visitors, and a community hub for residents, it’s important that it’s welcoming and encourages everyone to come, to enjoy and to return.”

Improving accessibility

Cr Brooke Savige (Div 1) says upgrade will keep everything park visitors love about Brennan Park, adding new playground and safety features.

“The park is a hub for Bribie Island and is well utilised,” she says.
“It’s close to the thriving business area of the island, right on the water and a green and quiet oasis.

“We want to make sure it stays a place people are drawn to, so it will be great to see an upgrade that provides wonderful new - and modern - facilities, including additional seating, nature-based play options and a renew of the softfall areas.

Cr Savige says most existing equipment will be retained, but some will be replaced and some new elements will be added.

“The upgrade project will also improve accessibility and sun safety and meet community expectations.

“Importantly, we will also conduct stormwater drainage work to ensure Brennan Park can cope with the kind of prolonged wet weather we have been experiencing so far this year.”

While the work is carried out, Brennan Park will be closed for short periods, with barricading around the playground equipment.

The Landscape Construction Company Pty Ltd is due to start the $835,128 in work in August. It will take about four months to complete.
