Bribie Bowls Club launches Christmas toy appeal

Moreton Bay locals are being encouraged to help spread some Christmas cheer to children in need by placing a present under the Bribie Island Bowls Club’s Christmas Tree this festive season.

With Christmas just around the corner, the club is again collecting presents on behalf of B.I.K.E.S, with all presents being given directly to local children in need.

B.I.K.E.S is a St Vincent de Paul Special Works Project that supports children from Bribie Island and Sandstone Point by providing essential educational resources and opportunities to end the cycle of poverty.

Bribie Island Bowls Club general manager Kevin Bertwistle says the club is happy to support the worthy cause.

“Education has far reaching effects beyond the school gates and it can help end the cycle of poverty,” Kevin says.

“It’s important that we give kids the best start in life, and we want to help all the children that we can on the island.

“With the ever-increasing cost of living, more families this year will be doing it tough at Christmas time, so we’re really trying extra hard to provide some extra smiles.

“If you have a book or a toy that you would like to give to a child between the ages of five and 15 years old, please place it under the club’s Christmas tree by Wednesday, December 6.

“Donated presents don't need to be wrapped but perhaps you might like to include a little Christmas message with the gift," Kevin says.

“Please note the club is unable to accept used or second-hand gifts.”

Gift ideas

If you need some gift giving inspiration - books, sporting equipment, stationery supplies, headphones or arts and crafts supplies are always welcome.

Or if you prefer, you can make a cash donation and B.I.K.E.S will purchase a present on your behalf - just see the friendly staff at the club’s reception for more details.

Last year, the club donated a trailer full of gifts – something they are hoping to achieve again this year.

The Bribie Island Bowls Club is at 23/11 Welsby Pde, Bongaree.
