Bribie Island satellite hospital preferred site revealed

Bribie Island’s satellite hospital is a step closer to reality with a 1.6ha parcel of land identified as the preferred site.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced today that Crown Land at First Ave, Bongaree, had been pegged as a proposed site for the health hub.

“Bribie Island will be one of the first communities in south-east Queensland to have a satellite hospital,” Premier Palaszczuk said.

“I’m happy to say we’ve identified a 1.6ha property owned by Education Queensland that we believe is ideal for this purpose.

“The government’s satellite hospital program is an Australian-first initiative that will provide the healthcare services needed in rapidly growing communities.

“We’re investing in brand new public infrastructure to create jobs and rebuild our economy – which is at the core of our economic recovery plan.”

Better healthcare access

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said: “Bribie Island residents will be able to access urgent healthcare and other services closer to their home instead of having to travel to a larger, major hospital”.

“Community health services, ambulatory and low acuity day therapy services such as renal dialysis, chemotherapy, complex wound management, urgent care for minor injury and illness, and outpatient activities are some of the services being considered for this satellite hospital.”

State Member for Pumicestone Ali King said: “Bribie is home to an ageing population and there’s a clear need for more local health infrastructure.

“Our Bribie Island Satellite Hospital will help take the pressure off Caboolture Hospital emergency department and other Moreton Bay hospitals which are experiencing growing demand.

“I can’t wait for our satellite hospital to be completed in 2023.”

Planning for the Bribie Island satellite hospital is well underway, with consultation beginning soon to determine what services will be offered.
