Calling time on Council HQ

Moreton Bay City Council may be on the move from its main offices to a new site.

A Council spokesperson said plans are being investigated to leave the Strathpine Chambers and administrative buildings on Gympie Rd.

Land at Moreton Bay Central - the former paper mill site 5km away at Petrie - is being considered for a new Council headquarters.

“As Council’s Strathpine Chambers, dating back to the 1980’s and the Pine Rivers Shire administration buildings come to end of life the Council is exploring opportunities at its Moreton Bay Central precinct for a new Council building that capitalises on Council’s investment to date and ownership of land,” the spokesperson said.

“No investment decision has been made however concept designs and lot selection have been ongoing.

“It is anticipated that the Strathpine Chambers and Pine Rivers Shire administration buildings will reach end-of-life by 2030.”

The Pine Rivers Shire administration building, beside the main chambers on Gympie Road, dates back to March 1960.

Council still has the former Redcliffe City Council building, though general meetings are no longer held at the Irene St offices.

The former Caboolture Shire Council headquarters, in Caboolture Square, are still used, hosting alternating general meetings with Strathpine.

Moreton Bay Central, this region’s most strategically important area, is already home to University of the Sunshine Coast, with four buildings with more planned.

A further $1.2 billion of development is to start this year and next, led by PsiQuantum’s Asia-Pacific headquarters and utility-scale computer, in a $940 million project.

Work is expected to start later this year on the new $60 million TAFE Centre of Excellence and Advanced ManufacturingHub.

That will be followed next year by the $205 million Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre, which is to host Olympic events.
