Community rallies for Emily’s family
Published 11:06am 1 November 2022

The community is rallying to support the family of Emily Thompson whose life was cut short last month at Rob Akers Reserve.
The 18-year-old Pine Rivers State High School student was preparing for final exams and her school formal at the time of her death.
Aaron Daniel Mitchelson Huckel, 19, of Kallangur, faced Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Monday, October 31, via video link charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend and misconduct with a corpse.
Huckel was remanded in custody and the matter adjourned for a committal mention on January 9, 2023.
Meanwhile the community is doing what it does best – throwing its collective arms around Emily’s family and friends.
Domino’s will host a ‘Doughraiser’ tomorrow and a Go Fund Me Page is also raising money.
In a post on the Domino’s Strathpine Facebook page, franchisee Daniel Murray said the community had been shocked and saddened by Emily’s death.
“Many of our young team members knew Emily and are absolutely devastated by such a beautiful life taken far too soon. I can’t even begin to imagine what Emily’s family are going through right now, and so we want to do everything we can to support them,” he said in the post.
“I’ve had a chat to some of my fellow Domino’s franchisees and we all want to help raise as much money for Emily’s family as possible to support them during this very difficult time.
“We will be holding a ‘Doughraiser’ Wednesday, November 2, 2022, with $1 from every Domino’s pizza sold between 4-8pm going directly to the Thompson Family.”
Participating stores are: Aspley, Kelvin Grove, Newmarket, Sandgate, New Farm, Banyo, Clayfield, Virginia, Strathpine, Kedron, Chermside, Albany Creek, Nambour, Hamilton, Fortitude Valley, Sunnybank, Calamvale, Rochedale, Marsden, Brassall, Yamanto and McDowall.
A Go Fund Me Page created seven days ago has raised more than $47,000. To donate, visit the website
