The walls are up and and the roof is on as construction progresses on a new Sunshine Mitre 10 at North Lakes due to open later this year.
The new store will employ more than 30 staff and cater to strong and increasing demand from the building and trade sector in the area.
Work started on the store at Stapylton St in March, with plans approved by Moreton Bay Regional Council in December. Despite record-breaking rainfall, the project is progressing well.
Sunshine Mitre 10 General Manager Neil Hutchins, pictured below, says the new store will complement others in the Mitre 10 network in South East Queensland.
“As the population continues to grow rapidly, there is increasing and consistent demand for building supplies and construction materials,” Mr Hutchins says.
He says the new site is ideally positioned to service the local area as well as greater Brisbane with its location close to the Bruce Highway.
What to expect
The North Lakes site will be 6500sqm, with more than 3000sqm under roof. It will feature dedicated departments including building and hardware, homewares, lighting and electrical, hand and power tools, kitchen, painting and decorating, outdoor living, a large garden centre, appliances and plumbing as well as the dedicated trade products and services and the well-managed trade drive-through experience Mitre 10 is known for.
Mr Hutchins says more than about 25,000 people presently call North Lakes home, with the population predicted to grow by approximately 30 per cent during the next decade, so the demand to service both trade and DIY customers is strong.
“With the addition of another Mitre 10 to the Brisbane network, we are working to keep independently operated hardware strong. By working together, we can provide the best service and offer for DIY and trade customers,” he says.
|“This new store will include all the latest brands and products and showcase the best hardware products available. The site will have everything you need to get in, get out, and get on with it,” Mr Hutchins says.|
He says in addition to the new staff to be employed when the store opens in late 2022, during the construction phase, the project will also generate jobs for the building and construction industry, supplying employment for local builders and contractors.
