Cool upgrades for community halls
Words by Nick Crockford

Key community halls across the Moreton Bay region will see $3.3 million of upgrades to such as air conditioning, lighting and solar systems.

The community hall upgrades include:

  • Narangba Community Centre: new air-conditioning and solar power system
  • Beachmere Hub: new air-conditioning system and acoustic panelling
  • Burpengary Community Hall: new car park lighting
  • Strathpine Community Centre: new air-conditioning system
  • Morayfield Community Hall: new air-conditioning and solar power system.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the improvements were vital for encouraging hall use, community connection and participation.

“Members of the public visit our halls more than half a million times each year, so it’s important we continue to invest in these spaces to support everything from community meetings and sports classes to craft activities and local celebrations,” he said.

“These upgrades mean our halls will be cooler and more accessible for everyone, all year round, particularly in our hot summer months.

“I’m pleased to see upgrades completed at the Narangba and Beachmere halls, and look forward to seeing Burpengary, Morayfield and Strathpine finalised.”

Councillor Mark Booth (Div 2) said Narangba Community Centre, Burpengary Community Hall and Beachmere Hub upgrades were guided by local feedback.

“The air conditioning and solar upgrades make a huge difference for everyone using the Narangba Community Centre, especially for our free and low-cost Healthy and Active Moreton classes during the warmer months,” he said.

“It’s all about making the space more comfortable and welcoming.”

Cr Jim Moloney (Division 8) said having reliable air conditioning in Strathpine Community Centre would ensure “everyone can enjoy their activities … all year round”.

Cr Tony Latter (Division 12) was “thrilled” to help bring air conditioning Morayfield Community Hall for the first time in its history.
