Masks will be compulsory from 1am tomorrow as Queensland Health races to control the latest COVID-19 outbreak, after two new cases of community transmission were detected in the past 24 hours.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young updated the Queensland Community this morning.
The mask mandate will apply to 11 local government areas including the Moreton Bay Region.
It comes after a person connected to the Portuguese restaurant cluster tested positive and a mine worker, who lives on the Sunshine Coast tested positive for the highly contagious Delta strain.
She is one of 170 Queensland Health is contacting, who could have been exposed to a worker who contracted the virus while in hotel quarantine in Queensland and returned to the Northern Territory.
Dr Young says the woman has been active in the community for only one day, and returned from a family road trip, when she learned she may have been exposed.
"This is a highly infectious strain and we need to get on top of this very quickly," Ms Palaszczuk says.
It is one of 41 active cases across Queensland. More than 6500 Queenslanders have been tested in the past 24 hours and the government is calling on more people to come forward, if they have any COVID-19 symptoms.
Ms Palaszczuk says the next 24-48 hours will be critical in limiting the spread of the virus and she is calling on the Queensland community to do its part as the situation evolved across the country.
National Cabinet is due to meet this afternoon and the Premier says she will be raising the need to cap overseas arrivals, pushing for regional quarantine facilities at Toowoomba and Brisbane Airport, and discussing the vaccine rollout.
When you need to wear a mask
From 1am tomorrow, you will need to wear a mask unless you are in the car with family, at home or exercising alone or with your family. They must be worn at all other times.
The Premier is calling on Queenslanders not to wait until then and to mask-up now.
Other restrictions include limitations on the number of people allowed in indoor venues - back to one person per 4sqm.
Weddings and funerals will be capped at 100 people and dancing limited to 20 people.
Venues hosting ticketed and seated events can remain at 100 per cent capacity for now.
There is a limit of 30 people in households (including those who live there).
Dr Young says these measures are needed to hopefully prevent tighter restrictions in the coming days and weeks.

If you have been to any of the following venues at the times specified, contact Queensland Health, get tested and isolate immediately. Monitor the Queensland Health website for the growing number of possible exposure sites.
