COVID-19 Update: November 15

Queensland’s borders will open four days earlier than expected, with the state’s double vaccination level hitting 70.25 percent ahead of schedule.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the borders will open at 5pm today to people flying from interstate.

“That’s come earlier than expected (and) it may even see our date (for opening to people to enter the state by car) in December come a little bit forward as well,” Ms Palaszczuk says.

“That could come a week early, but I don’t want to get people’s hopes up.”

Those coming to Queensland must be double vaccinated, have tested negative to COVID-19 within 72 hours of travel and be able to home quarantine.

Quarantine rules

Health Minister and member for Redcliffe Yvette D’Ath says the criteria for people home quarantining will be the same as for the 1000 people involved in the home quarantine trial.

She says those entering the state must live within two hours of the airport they fly in to and their residence must be accessible “by fresh air”.

“It can be a townhouse or apartment where you have fresh air access to your door,” she says.

This includes apartments with ground floor access without using communal areas such as lifts and corridors.

Ms D’Ath says people will not be able to use ride share vehicles to reach their quarantine destination, but they will be able to use contactless car hire or travel in a vehicle with family or friends who also intend to quarantine.

Deputy Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski says police are planning for an earlier than planned reopening of the border to vehicles from hotspots.
