COVID-19 Update: October 26

The Caboolture South Travel Centre is among several new COVID-19 contact exposure sites, with Queensland recording two new locally acquired cases overnight.

One of them is an unvaccinated 17-year-old on the Gold Coast, who presented at an emergency department with a headache and is a close contact of a person who travelled from NSW, while the second is a woman in her 30s from Melbourne who is in home quarantine and poses no threat.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says a truck driver from Gympie also tested positive in NSW and is classified as a NSW case.

The man had travelled from Bundaberg, stopping at the Caboolture South Travel Centre on Saturday, October 23 between 8.50 and 9.35am.

He used the men’s toilet in the truck stop area, which is considered a close contact site as a result.

Yesterday 8779 tests were carried out across the state, with Queensland Health administering 12,769 vaccines.

Protect the community

Ms Palaszczuk says 75.22 percent of eligible people in the state have had one dose of a COVID vaccine, with 60.7 percent having received two doses.

“Today’s cases show Queensland is not immune to the pandemic – we have contained dozens of outbreaks, but as NSW, Victoria, the ACT and New Zealand have discovered it only takes one case to cause a massive outbreak,” she says.

“Our only protection is to get vaccinated.

“Queenslanders have just five days to get their first dose so they can be fully vaccinated in time for Christmas.”

This weekend Surf Life Saving Clubs and major theme parks will host vaccination clinics.

“Lifeguards and surf lifesavers protect lives every day – anyone who’s vaccinated does the same,” Ms Palaszczuk says.
