Dolphins leap to new heights

Redcliffe Dolphins Soccer Club Inc - formerly Redcliffe PCYC - has had a remarkable finish to its season of change.

Dolphins has separated from the PCYC, after 39 years, and will start its social summer five-a-side competition on October 15 under the new incorporated name.

The Kippa-Ring club will also be at its highest playing level - the state's fifth tier, FQPL4, under the new Football Queensland structure - in 2022.

Historic win

Dolphins were third in Football Brisbane's Capital League 2 entering their final match against Clairvaux, who were second, in the final promotion position.

But Dolphins' crushing 5-0 victory saw them leapfrog the visitors in the final fixture of the regular season. Confirmation has also been received of their place in FQPL4.

Josh Blackburn scored two for a season’s tally of 19 and the Golden Boot award. Cameron Scott and Jamie Hilliar hit one apiece. An own goal completed the scoring.

Both sides meet again at Talobilla Park on Sunday in the semi-final play-off, kick-off 3.15pm.

Highest yet

“Despite all the interruptions this year with lockdowns, the transition to a stand-alone club and the FB/FQ situation we have excelled as a united community club,” said registrar Ginette Barrett.

“Our seniors and divisional teams have been extremely successful, with our seniors finishing second on the ladder and being promoted to FQPL5 for 2022 season.

“This is the highest division the club has ever played in.”

Dolphins’ Under 12 Division 5 side was undefeated all season; the Under 12 Division 10 team won every game but one, which was a draw and Under 14 Division 2 is top of the ladder with two matches remaining.

“We are so very proud of all our players. We look forward to starting next season fresh under our new club banner Redcliffe Dolphins Soccer Club Inc,” Barrett said.
