Energy appliance cashback extended

By Ella Bradford

The State Government’s energy efficient appliance cashback program has been extended, saving families hundreds of dollars when they buy new appliances.

The program, which was originally budgeted at $22 million and estimated to benefit about 40,000 Queensland families, has been doubled.

The Climate Smart Energy Savers Program is providing discounts on a range of eligible appliances including airconditioners, solar and heat pump hot water systems, washing machines, dishwashers, dryers, and refrigerators.

The average cashback provided is about $420.

It is in additional to the State Government’s electricity bill rebates of $550 for every household and $1072 for Queensland senior and concession card holders.

More than 10,000 applications have been received for the initial cashback offer, and the government says it is working through the approvals process.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says she wants to ensure more Queenslanders have a chance to benefit from this offer.

“We recognise that families are facing cost of living pressures, so we already have the biggest electricity bill support package in the country which comes on top of this cashback,” Premier Palaszczuk says.

Who is eligible

Low-income households are eligible to claim the most on appliances, but all Queenslanders are encouraged to access the program.

Rebates are limited to one per household and will be available until the $44 million in funding is exhausted.
