Aneurysm survivor raises funds for RBWH

Annie Barnett has dedicated her time to raising awareness and funds for aneurysm research after suffering a life-changing brain aneurysm two years ago.
The then 21-year-old was left fighting for life after an aneurysm suddenly ruptured in her brain.
“(I spent) four months in hospital with another ruptured aneurysm. (I also had) a stroke, seizures, hydrocephalus and other complications,” Annie says.
“I’m grateful every single day to be alive and to have recovered. I’m a miracle.”
Annie recently hosted a luncheon at Oak Tree Retirement Village Burpengary, to raise money for Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital (RBWH) Foundation.
The luncheon was a success, having raised almost $6000.
“It was such an incredible event and I felt over the moon after it. We raised just under $6000 which went straight to the foundation,” Annie explains.
“It was amazing standing in a room with other people who are just as passionate about raising awareness. I loved hearing from Dr. Stephanie Miller who’s a neuroscientist who’s researching these kind of brain conditions.
“My biggest motivation (for raising awareness) is that it’s such an unknown, unpredictable condition that causes death for many people and something needs to be done to prevent this.
“More research needs to be put in place to save lives. People are unknowingly walking around with these ticking time bombs in their head.”
When asked what she would say to anyone going through a similar journey, Annie says: “Look for the light at the end of the tunnel, stay positive and surround yourself with loved ones. You will get through this!”
Annie’s fundraiser for RBWH Foundation will be active for a few more weeks.
