Kick back, relax and enjoy the Music in the Park event at Deception Bay next weekend.
The event on April 2, from 1-5pm, will feature performances by musicians from the area, giving locals the chance to enjoy local talent in a relaxed setting at Apex Park.
The line-up includes Cassi Marie, Andy Peacock, Amelia and the Grizzly, and Soulergy.
Pack yourself a picnic or head to the food trucks to grab a snack and settle in for a relaxed afternoon by the water.
There will be plenty of food on offer with the Oyster Point Scouts running the community barbecue.
Entry to Music in the Park Deception Bay is free. The event is presented by Moreton Bay Regional Council and strategic sponsors Moreton Alert, Ausbuild, UniSC, Brisbane Whale Watching, Village Motors and Pacific Harbour Golf and Country Club, and gold sponsor Crew Legal and community sponsor State Member for Bancroft Chris Whiting.
Moreton Bay Regional Councillor Sandra Ruck (Div 5) says she hopes to see the whole community turn out.
“Join in the fun of a festival vibe with free entertainment as well as a community barbecue and food trucks, so all you need to bring is your picnic rug, and some sunscreen,” she said.
“It’s a lovely way to spend an afternoon with family or friends, enjoying free entertainment from 1pm through to 5pm twilight.
“Not only is this a convenient event being so close to home, we’re also dedicated to supporting local talent so come and support Moreton Bay’s homegrown musicians.”
Welcome community boost
Mayor Peter Flannery says these kinds of events will become more important as the cost of living increases.
“It’s free, it’s live, it’s local and I want to see a lot more of these kinds of events in our neighbourhoods because it’s close enough to home that you don’t have to pay for parking in Brisbane or get stuck on the Bruce,” he says.
“I’m really keen to hear from locals their ideas on how we can expand our music, events, and entertainment programs to make them even better for you.
“I’m very, very serious about investing in our local lifestyle before Moreton Bay gets any bigger, to make sure you still love living here 50 years from now.
“That’s why this year we almost doubled the number of community events on our social calendar, and locals have turned out in droves.
“So clearly it’s an important civic service to provide.”
