Fix on the way for Arana Hills blackspot
Work will start on a fix for a notorious Arana Hills blackspot next month.
The $2.6 million upgrade at the intersection of Plucks and South Pine roads will include new lights, anti-skid surfacing and drainage.
Eight crashes have been recorded at the intersection since 2013.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Peter Flannery says the upgrade will improve traffic flow and safety.
“This is a notorious stretch of downhill road, particularly when wet,” Mayor Flannery says.
“It’s something Cr (Matt) Constance (Div 10) has been raising with council on behalf of his community, which is why we’re taking action.
“We’ve completed the Dawson Pde and Patricks Rd intersection upgrade, and thanks to a record $743 million budget we’re able to put our sights squarely on this next intersection.”
Important safety upgrade
Cr Constance says the intersection is the main road between homes in the west to vital services, shops and schools.
“With Leslie Patrick Park’s all-abilities playground, Arana Hills Plaza, the fire station and schools all located within this precinct, this upgrade has been one of the top priorities for our community,” Cr Constance says.
“Council undertook extensive consultation and design on this project, so it’s great to see much of that feedback being reflected in the final design.
“Sadly, we’ve seen eight crashes at this intersection since 2013 including a number of hospitalisations, which shows just how important this upgrade is.”
He says the project will also improve pedestrian safety and link with the upcoming Max Moreton Park pedestrian connection.
Works is expected to take 20 weeks to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.
