Dementia Australia’s largest annual fundraising event, Memory Walk and Jog, is set to take place in Redcliffe for the very first time.

Last year, more than 10,000 people walked, jogged and ran across cities in Australia to raise funds to support people of all ages living with dementia.

On June 1, the Redcliffe community is being encouraged to head to Scarborough Beach Park to participate in the important cause.

Dementia Australia’s Chief Operating Officer Anthony Boffa says the event is designed with the whole community in mind.

“We would love to see the people of Redcliffe join us for the first time, walking or jogging with us for people impacted by dementia and their supporters…” Anthony says.

“It’s not about being an elite athlete – it’s about being part of the community and feeling supported.

“…Whether you're super-fit or a Sunday-stroller, you can walk, jog or run for a great cause…”

Participants can choose to trek either 2.5km or 5km, with each course taking place alongside the beautiful foreshore.

“We started as one event and have grown to more locations than ever. This year we have 22 Memory Walk and Jogs planned for towns and cities across the country,” Anthony says.

“This year we are hoping more people than ever will participate, helping us to raise $2 million in support of people living with dementia, their families and carers.

“We’re well on our way to reaching this goal – with communities across Australia having already raised more than $1.4 million!”

The Redcliffe community alone has already raised more than $24,000 – with the goal of hitting $30,000.

Funds raised at all Memory Walk and Jog events go directly to Dementia Australia.
