Do your bit for the environment at North Harbour’s fourth community Tree Planting Day, now taking place on Sunday, October 10.

Bring the whole family along for a free day of activities, while helping achieve the goal of planting 1000 native trees on the day, adding to the thousands which have been planted since North Harbour commenced its riverside revegetation program in 2012.

Partnering with CREEC Community Nursery, the trees planted along the Caboolture River will further protect existing vegetation and habitats and contribute to improved water quality and bank stability.

North Harbour Project Director Bryan Finney says the event plays an important role in the revegetation of the site and adds to the more than 15ha of planting completed so far.

“Our aim is to restore a significant wildlife corridor along our 9km frontage to the Caboolture River. This includes reintroducing native species of plants and trees, to rehabilitate the riverfront as an area of natural beauty available for the community to enjoy in perpetuity. This revegetation is part of our broader conservation program, which has helped us achieve Envirodevelopment certification across all six elements of this independently assessed, nationally recognised accreditation,” Bryan says.

“Events like our tree planting days allow us to work with the local community and show our commitment to creating sustainable development which enhances and sustains our local environments and eco-systems.

“They also give our residents the opportunity to plant a tree with their families that they can visit in the future. Literally putting down roots in our growing community.”

Along with planting trees, visitors can enjoy petting baby farm animals, entertainment from 101.5FM, a free sausage sizzle run by North Harbour’s community partners Genies Netball Club and a coffee van.
