Moreton Bay will soon get its own customised version of a world-famous board game – Monopoly.
The new Monopoly: Moreton Bay Edition is expected to be in toy shops across the region later this year. Residents are also being given a chance to help shape the Moreton Bay version by suggesting iconic landmarks and locations.
Michael Counsell, spokesperson for Winning Moves, manufacturer of the Moreton Bay Edition under license from Hasbro, said it will “celebrate everything this region has to offer, from its beautiful coastline to its hidden trails and local hotspots”.
“We want to hear about your favourite fish and chip shop, the park you love to walk in, and the beaches where you spend your downtime,” he said.
“Whether it’s a weekend 4x4 adventure, snorkelling at Tangalooma Wrecks or relaxing at your corner café, share the landmarks, experiences and local gems you think should be celebrated, because this is your board to help create.”
Could Redcliffe Jetty be the prize every player of Monopoly Moreton Bay wants to own? Or Suttons Beach?
Should Anzac Ave be the transport prize or South Pine Road, King St or the Bruce Highway? Could Caboolture, Narangba, Strathpine and Mango Hill be the four stations?
Should Woorim Beach on Bribie Island be a top target? Or the Olympic site at Moreton Bay Central? Would Unitywater be one of the utilities?
Email your suggestions to [email protected] by the end of February.
Monopoly first hit the shelves in 1935 with the racecar, thimble, boot, top hat, and battleship. The scottie dog and wheelbarrow tokens were added in the early 1950s. Although the brand has evolved over the past 90 years, the gameplay and iconography of the classic Monopoly game is unchanged.
Today Monopoly is enjoyed by more than one billion players in 114 countries across the globe.
