Gold at the double for sisters

Mara and Amelie Hoefel made it a golden double for Redcliffe at the Water Polo Queensland State Championships.

The Redcliffe State High School students both helped their Mermaids teams step up onto the top of the medal podium.

Mara's team, Mermaids 14 Pink, won the gold medal match in the U14 Maroon division beating All Hallows 7-5.

That victory also ensured Mermaids went through the tournament undefeated at Gold Coast Aquatic Centre from April 5-13.

Amelie's team, Mermaids 18 Pink, won gold in the U18 Maroon division, clinching the title with a 14-9 victory over UQWPC Barras.

It also led to Amelie being named in the All Star 7 championship team.

Clontarf Beach State High School student Eden Weir was in the Under 14 Division as goalkeeper with North Brisbane Polo Bears, based at Albany Creek.

The Margate resident helped Polo Bears take fifth place in the tournament’s White division.
