Help drive new transport plan

Planning is underway on the future transport needs of seven growing residential areas in the north of the City of Moreton Bay.

Transport and Main Roads (TMR) investigation is to prepare for population growth in Bribie, Donnybrook, Toorbul, Meldale, Ningi, Sandstone Point, Godwin Beach and Beachmere.

The $400,000 Bribie Island and Surrounds Transport Mobility Study will look at how the communities connect and travel towards the Sunshine Coast, Caboolture, Redcliffe and greater Brisbane.

"More than 37,000 people currently live in the study area, and that number is forecast to grow over the coming years, increasing transport demand,” TMR Minister Mark Bailey said.

"Population growth in adjacent centres is also likely to impact transport demand, with more visitors likely to frequent the area’s cultural and natural attractions.

“With a high proportion of residents aged 65 years or older, it is important to support appropriate transport access to services both within and outside the area.

Ali King, State Member for Pumicestone, said: “Whether it’s more flexible bus services on Bribie or more regular connections to Toorbul, this is your chance to tell TMR what you need to get around our area.

“To make sure we can get transport that works for us, please have your say and ask your family, friends and neighbours to do the same.”

All modes of transport, including walking, cycling, public transport and driving, will be taken into account as part of the study.

The planning study includes extensive community consultation, which is aimed at gaining a better understanding of priority transport issues and opportunities.

Public consultation has started and runs until Sunday December 17, 2023.
