Christmas fun starts in Griffin with the annual Santa Run on November 20 and culminates in the Griffin Christmas Carnival a week later.

The two events, organised by Griffin State School P&C Association, bring the school, businesses and broader community together.

President Stephen McFetridge says the Santa Run will start from the school at 9.30am and cover the majority of estates in the Griffin area during a four-hour period.

Residents will have the chance to say hello to Santa, Mrs Claus and their elves.

The run has been held annually since 2017, even in 2020 when the carnival had to be cancelled due to COVID-19.

“The community loves it,” Stephen says.

The Griffin Christmas Carnival will be held on November 27 from 3-8pm at the school, Wesley Rd, Griffin.

Entry is free and there will be rides, fireworks, food and market stalls, giant snow globe, stage shows, sideshow alley, animal petting zoo and a chance to have your photo taken with Santa.

Children wanting to write a letter to Santa can post it in Santa’s Mailbox, sponsored by MSN Homes, which will also be at the carnival.

What’s happening

There will be more than 10 rides to choose from including dodgem cars, sizzler and round up as well as super slide, swinging chairs, wipe out, cup and saucer and more.

Armbands are on sale now for the early-bird price of $30 until 11am, November 26. For those who do not want to buy armbands, individual ride tickets will be available.

Stephen says the event, first held in 2016, has been on the school grounds since 2017 and is a great way to bring the community together.

“It’s not just the school community, it’s open to whole community to come in. We want people to be part of the Griffin community,” he says.

He says it is an affordable afternoon, which is ‘family friendly and wallet-friendly’.

“It’s our biggest fundraising event of the year. This does help us out and helps the kids out at the end of day,” Stephen says.

The association is grateful for the support of sponsors including Deputy Premier and State Member for Murrumba Steven Miles.

The other sponsors are Anytime Fitness, Griffin Community Discount Pharmacy, Elephas Education, Moreton Bay Regional Council, Brisbane North Snake Catchers and Relocation, Domino’s Murrumba Downs/Kallangur, MSN Homes, CSC Group, Federal Member for Petrie Luke Howarth, KCL Mobile Automotive, Jim’s Fencing and Ray White Murrumba Downs.

“Without them, we would not be able to hold the carnival,” Stephen says.
