Brewing cuppas for a great cause

Sisters Nadine Wilkie and Bonnie Worth are joining forces with their real estate agencies this week to support the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea.

Tomorrow a ‘tea’ will be co-hosted by Raine & Horne North Lakes (owners/principals Nadine and Tony Wilkie) and Raine & Horne Eatons Hill/Albany Creek (owner/principal Bonnie Worth).

Drinks and “treats to eat” will be available 10am-noon at Raine & Horne, Shop 1A, 27 Discovery Dr, North Lakes, to support research and support programs for those impacted by cancer.

Mrs Wilkie said they wanted to share the event it’s “very close to our hearts”.

'Overwhelmed'

“We’ve known friends and family members that have been affected by cancer,” she said.

“We've been overwhelmed by the amount of support from small businesses donating prizes for our raffle.

“Our target was $300 but so far we have raised close to $700 and still rising. How lovely would it be to achieve the $1000 mark.”

In the Brisbane region, including Moreton Bay, more than 1300 hosts have registered already and the Cancer Council hopes more will hold events between now and the end of June.

Sign-up for Tea

This year Cancer Council Queensland is  hoping to recruit more than 5200 morning tea hosts and raise more than $2million state-wide.

Since Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea began in 1994, more than $200 million has been raised by the Cancer Council.

Biggest Morning Teas can be held at home with friends or family, in the office, be a gathering in the local community or at a school.
