Juniors join star-studded line-up

Four juniors have joined a strong field for this week’s Optilease Redcliffe Pro-Am - the richest event in the Australian Adidas PGA Series.

Sixty-five professional players will tee-up at Redcliffe Golf Club on April 9-10 chasing a record $100,000 in prize money over 36 holes.

Alongside them will be juniors Abbey Cook from Virginia Golf Club, Callum Misso of Maroochydore River and Redcliffe duo Sebastion Goodchild and Orlando Azzerello.

They qualified as the top two gross and net winners in the first Bank of Queensland Redcliffe Golf Club Junior Classic “Pathway to the Pro Am” competition last month.

All will use the four newly-reconstructed holes which have been reopened as part of Redcliffe’s course master plan.

Director of Golf Chris Adnams said the pro-am has been moved from its usual mid-winter slot in order to use the full course before more master plan work begins mid-year.

Senior entries this year include 2025 winner Ben Henkel, who had a second round 10-under par 60 and won a dramatic four-man play-off to take the title.

Also returning is Aaron Wilkin, the 2022 winner and former Queensland state captain, with Victoria’s Jake McLeod, who has four top six finishes on the pro-am tour this year.

Nathan Barbieri, from NSW, who led the 2026 Vic Open before losing in a play-off , is confirmed as is Melbourne’s Matais Sanchez, who was third in The National last week.

Doug Klein, a multiple Redcliffe club champion, is also back to try and regain the pro-am crown he won in 2021 on his home course.

Director of Golf Chris Adnams says the tournament has “another very, very strong line-up” for what will be his final pro-am.

After 18 years at Redcliffe Golf Club, the last nine as Director of Golf, Chris is leaving after this week’s competition.

“It was the aim of Alan Newcombe (Optilease) and I to get prize money to $100,000 and I’m pleased we have achieved that,” Chris said.

Spectators are welcome at the Redcliffe Pro-Am, which has won Golf Industry Awards four times.
