Kick up your heels and have a ball at QCWA centenary gala evening
Published 10:00am 9 September 2022
Moreton Bay residents will be stepping out in their best dresses and suits this month to celebrate the centenary of the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA).
The QCWA was formed on August 11, 1922, and to celebrate this historic milestone, members of the QCWA Pine Rivers Branch will be hosting a gala ball at the Show Hall at the Pine Rivers Showground on Saturday, September 24.
QCWA Pine Rivers Secretary Anna Mead says tickets are still available for the ball, which will feature live entertainment and prizes.
“The centenary ball group have been busy pulling everything together for the event,” Anna says.
“It has been planned as a fun celebration and not as a fundraiser.
“Tickets are $50 per head and includes dancing till you drop, a lucky door prize, multiple raffles, a complimentary drink on arrival, supper, a little surprise for each guest and a birthday cake to celebrate.
“We are looking forward to dressing up in our fine clothes. The dress code is after 5pm/semi formal/formal.”
The Silver Comets Dance Band will be performing on the night.
A cash bar will also be available.
Tickets can only be pre-purchased by phoning Anna on 0402 227 631.
Upcoming fashion show
Following the centenary ball, the branch will be hosting its final fundraiser for the year – a Fashion Parade by Portofino Fashions – on Saturday, October 22.
“This follows a very successful fashion parade we held last year,” Anna says.
“The cost is $15 per head and that includes entry, lucky door prize and afternoon tea.
“Raffle tickets can also be purchased at the event.
“Whether you come along on your own or get a group of friends together, we guarantee you'll enjoy an afternoon of fun.”
The fashion parade will be held at the Show Hall at Pine Rivers Showground.
Doors open at 12.30pm with the fashion parade to begin at 1pm.
For catering purposes, phone Anna on 0402 227 631 to RSVP.
Welcoming new members
The QCWA Pine Rivers Branch have attracted some new members after being heavily involved in a number of community events.
“Our members have been very busy this year with catering for a number of functions, several craft days, hosting guest speakers from Koala Care and Angel Flight, holding a very successful Cent Auction, plus our involvement at the Pine Rivers Show and the EKKA, and most recently, holding a stall at a Seniors Expo held at Brendale,” Anna says.
“We have been lucky enough to welcome 10 new members this year, and more are always welcome.”
Members of the club enjoy handcraft and cookery competitions, raising money for important charities, and taking part in leisurely group activities like fashion parades, cent auctions, morning teas and more.
