Katherine French has searched for the best of the best to join her at KLIF – a collection of beauty salons under one umbrella on the Redcliffe peninsula.

Demand for these high-end services is booming since the opening of their second location at Newport Marketplace in January.

“I wanted to cater to the peninsula in style – like a boujee salon in the city with the same level of treatment and experience here,” Katherine says.

“I’ve done the hard work for everyone, so they don’t have to travel far and wide or go to the city or coast to coast.”

Clients can have all their beauty services done in the one location.

Katherine started her lash extensions business from her Newport home before opening her first salon at Sutton St, Redcliffe, just before COVID-19 hit.

The concept of working collaboratively with other beauty businesses from the one location appealed to her and was a way to bring specialists in their fields together.

As she watched Newport Marketplace take shape, she knew it was the ideal location for her second salon and made contact with the developers.

The salon opened in January and KLIF at Sutton St has since welcomed well-regarded, local hairdresser Emesha Ackerley (Emesha Hair Therapy).

“It worked out really well. I’ve had time to build the business even further and find the right people,” Katherine says.

Beauty specialists Siobhan Hair Artistry, Bespoke Beauty By Liana and Yumi Aesthetics are now part of the KLIF beauty collective – handpicked by Katherine.

All share her philosophy for high-quality treatments and exceptional customer service.

KLIF Lashes and Brows was named the Courier-Mail’s best lash technician in the greater Brisbane area for 2023, while Siobhan Hair Artistry was named in the Courier-Mail’s top 10 hairdressers in the Brisbane area for 2023 – at number five.

KLIF Lashes and Brows provides customised full lash and brow services except tattooing. These include lash extensions and brow lightening and laminations.

“We map the brows based on face analysis. We take the time to get it right,” Katherine says.

Her team includes Salon Co-ordinator Casey, Senior Stylist Georgia, Senior Stylist Jess and Emerging Stylist Chloe.

So, what are her plans for the future?

“I’m proud of what we have achieved. My goal is to (eventually) expand across South East Queensland, finding specialists within these areas,” Katherine says.

“We’re creating an experience for the consumer as well and offering quality customer service.”

As for the name … KLIF is made up of Katherine’s initials and is a nod to the place she has always called home.

Siobhan Hair Artistry

Siobhan Price and the team at Siobhan Hair Artistry are blonde and lived-in colour experts who also offer hair extensions.

She has been part of the KLIF beauty collective since February 2022 and had a home-based salon before that.

When her lease was up, she had difficulty finding another property where she could run her business from home and had a chance conversation with friend and KLIF Salon Co-ordinator Casey Monement.

She met with Owner and Director Katherine French and realised they shared the same goals and philosophy.

“It wasn’t something I was searching for, but I was excited going into a collaborative space because I had been working from home by myself for so long,” she says.

“It’s lonely working on your own. A collaborative space with other business owners was really appealing. I (now) can’t imagine my business not being in a collaborative space.

“It’s so supportive. We’re all in the same boat and understand each other.”

The team at Siobhan Hair Artistry includes Siobhan’s mum Collette, offering luxury barber services.

She has worked in the industry for more than 30 years and oversaw Siobhan’s apprenticeship many years ago.

Also on the team is emerging stylist Jade, who specialises in hair extensions. Siobhan is presently looking for a senior hair stylist and would be keen to hear from experienced applicants.

So, what does she love about her job?

“What brings me to work every day is knowing that, in some way, I’m bringing joy to someone’s life,” Siobhan says.

“When everybody leaves, they have this smile on their face and they’re glowing. I love making people feel good, giving them confidence.”

Bespoke Beauty By Liana

Liana Afamasaga’s business Bespoke Beauty By Liana became part of the KLIF beauty collective when the salon opened at Newport in January.

For Liana, it follows 15 years in the industry which included starting at Ella Bache as a 21-year-old to working in luxury spas and leading skin clinics throughout Brisbane.

“I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and worked on self-development. I’m always trying to learn and be better for my clients,” she explains.

“I love performing skin treatments. I love educating clients about their skin.”

Liana says the teams behind the businesses at KLIF are the best in their fields and have high standards. She’s thrilled to work alongside them.

“I think everything that Katherine (French) and all the ladies in the collective did really aligned with my values,” she recalls when asked why she became part of KLIF.

“I love being part of something bigger and being able to serve a wider community of clients and help everyone feel confident in themselves.”

Her team, which includes Isabella and Nicky, offers the full gamut of results-driven skin treatment services.

These include skin needling, facials, LED light treatments, chemical peels, micro fusion, relaxation facials and more.

Bespoke Beauty by Liana is open Monday to Saturday and offers late afternoon/evening appointments Monday to Thursday.

“I love looking after clients and empowering clients with skin confidence, helping them achieve their goals with their skin,” Liana says.

She believes providing personalised education is vital because skin care can be overwhelming, with so many products and treatments on the market. It is something she is passionate about, along with exceptional customer service.

“I love seeing their results as much as I love seeing their relaxation,” Liana says.

Yumi Aesthetics

Christina Hill’s business Yumi Aesthetics is joining KLIF beauty collective this week, making the move from Everton Hills.

She is excited about the sea change and connecting with like-minded businesses to better serve clients.

Christina launched her business about 12 months ago. It followed completion of a Bachelor of Nursing in 2018 and working in theatre where she observed plastic surgeons at work.

“This exposure further fuelled my desire to begin what I knew I always wanted to do - work in aesthetics,” she explains.

She has since been mentored by ‘some of Australia’s best injectors’.

“I am a true creative at heart and strive to provide a holistic experience for my patients. I have always taken pride in providing natural, yet transformative, results and supreme, yet subtle, rejuvenation,” Christina says.

She started her own business, so she could take more time with clients and adopt a more holistic and minimalistic approach.

“It’s creative. I love the whole anatomy side of things – the human body and how it works. I have an artful eye and am a perfectionist,” she says.

Christina offers anti-wrinkle injections, platysmal bands (neck lift) and hyperhidrosis (under arms), skin needling, dermal fillers, PDO threading and bio-remodelling.

“It’s not just women, I treat men as well and ages from 18 years old right through to 64-70 years old,” she says.

So, why did moving to KLIF appeal to her?

“It’s so many things – the opportunities that come from such a wonderful collaborative environment, the location, I really love Katherine’s vibe, it’s a wonderful group of people and it’s a less saturated area for what I do,” Christina says.
