Last in queue? Hazard lights on
Two huge billboards, seen by thousands of motorists from this region every day, are part of a new Queensland road safety campaign.
The program runs until mid-June and is aimed at ensuring the safety of road workers at the many major infrastructure projects and those driving through them.
Ahead of National Road Safety Week, Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has launched the 'Last in the queue? Hazard lights on' billboard campaign.
Boards beside the Bruce Highway north of Caboolture and south board at Bald Hills on the Gateway Motorway carry the message.

It raises awareness among all road users and travellers of what to do if queued in line of stationary traffic at roadworks. If you're last in, put your hazard lights on!
Turning on hazard lights is a way to let others know to slow down and be alert, keeping motorists, passengers roadworkers and traffic controllers safe.
“This initiative shows a response to fresh ideas to improve road safety in Queensland and a commitment to explore all options to improve road safety, including incidents at roadwork sites,” Transport Minister Mark Bailey said.
"We are doing our bit and we need Queenslanders to do theirs to keep roadworkers, traffic controllers and motorists safe by turning their hazard lights on when last in a queue of stationary traffic at roadworks.”
Mr Bailey said last year 299 lives were lost on Queensland roads, the worst since 2012.
Matthew Bereni, CEO of the Traffic Management Association of Australia (TMAA), supported the campaign.

"TMAA applauds TMR for taking this step towards improving safety measures for roadworkers and traffic controllers and is grateful for its commitment to road safety as well as the community and the role it plays in keeping them safe,” he said.
"TMAA has been working closely with TMR to raise awareness and improve safety measures for roadworkers and traffic controllers.
“We're thrilled these billboards will deliver this message to let people know what they can do to help achieve this.”
