Mini Farm launches rescue box appeal

The Mini Farm Project has launched a rescue box appeal to help it through the next month.

Ordering a Farm Rescue Produce Box, which will be delivered, supports the Samford charity and many needing food in this region.

The Mini Farm Project, like many producers, is still counting the huge cost of the weekend’s devastating rainfall.

It has lost all newly-sown seeds and planted seedlings, said founder and CEO Nick Steiner.

Harvest lost

Water-logged soil will also now rot produce scheduled for harvest this week at the Millen Farm site.

It was food intended for those in need, such as Meals on Wheels, which is one of the project’s partners and receives vital free produce each week.

However, attention has now turned to fundraising until new crop is ready for harvest.

“Instead of a donation, we are asking people to order a Farm Rescue Produce Box today, which will be delivered to their door in eight to 10 weeks,” Mr Steiner said.

“It’s like a pre-order, but with a longer window for delivery.”

By ordering a box this week you help the Mini Farm Project cover its costs for the next four weeks while staff replant.

When the produce is ready the Mini Farm will deliver your box to your door, anywhere in the Moreton Bay Region.

“It’s a win win” Mr Steiner said.
