Mini golf course set to open at bustling shopping centre

Residents will be able to do their shopping and play a round at a new 18-hole miniature golf course and bar which is set to open in the region in a few weeks.

Birdies Mini Golf and Sports Bar will be located at the Strathpine Centre, and create approximately 30 new jobs.

After opening the first Birdies in Melbourne last year, Director Stephanie Doyle said she was excited to expand into Queensland.

“I opened the first one here in Melbourne in November, and I have the Strathpine venue opening soon, as well as one in Sydney,” she said.

“When it came to choosing locations, I didn’t want anything in the city area because all the data I researched showed me people are wanting more amenities in the suburbs. People don’t want to be driving into the city all the time.

“I looked at the growth in the area, the real estate market, the kind of families that were moving in, looked at what amenities were nearby, and I found there was a gap.

“There were lots of supermarkets and dining but not a lot in the way of entertainment options.”

Exciting round for players

Ms Doyle is in discussions with contractors and is hopeful the venue will open in late March, making it the largest venue across all her sites.

“Physically, Strathpine will be my biggest venue. What makes Strathpine different is it’s an inside/outside venue,” she said.

“There will be plenty of seating options. The outside area will be covered, and we will have heaters for winter and misters for summer.

“Inside will be the mini golf course and a mezzanine area.”

Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, players will have fun trying to putt their ball through obstacles such as pipes and wooden blocks, as well as sweeping bends and steep hills.

“Every hole is different. You won’t see the same hole in Melbourne, Strathpine or Sydney because they are all unique and tailored to the local environment and surrounding elements,” she said.

“This course has been designed for adults. Each hole is bigger, and they are much harder to play than other designs you see at other mini golf courses, which have been designed with kids in mind.

“We wanted to challenge adults, and hopefully they will come back and want to try and beat their score and get their name on the leaderboard.

“Every six months we will also change a hole to keep things interesting.”

The bar will feature 18 independent beer taps, and close to 300 items on the menu, combining both food and beverages.

Children will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Birdies Mini Golf Bar and Sports Bar will be located at the Strathpine Centre, 295 Gympie Rd, Strathpine.
