Plans have been unveiled for a multi-million dollar upgrade to Spinnaker Sound Marina, beside the mainland entrance to Bribie Island Bridge.
Development group Ignite Projects is in the process of buying the marina, which has a marine lease covering more than 150 berths and associated landholdings.
Ignite Projects proposes to change the name of Spinnaker Sound Marina, established more than 40 years ago, to Sandstone Point Marina and add 66 apartments in two new buildings.
Anchorage Sandstone Point will have two, three or four bedrooms, some with a study and butler’s pantry, plus balconies with water views.
There will be 112 resident car parks, 42 secure spaces for visitors and marina users, recreation areas, a pool, bicycle parking and watercraft storage.
The marina upgrade is likely to include a waterside deck, new landscaping and more outdoor seating. Future plans include town homes.
Other options are being explored in consultation with the community.
Around 180 residents and boat owners were recently given a first look at the draft upgrade proposals and feedback was invited.
“Sandstone Point marina is the perfect gateway to Moreton Bay with all-weather protection for boats and less than one hour’s drive from Brisbane,” Ignite Projects Director Josh Foote said.
“This upgrade is a natural progression for the area, alongside other developments and planned infrastructure improvements, such as the Bribie bridge duplication and Caboolture-Bribie Island Rd widening.
"We have not set a deadline for consultation on the proposed marina upgrades as we’re keen to get as much feedback and input from the community as possible. We’re already making changes to our plans in response to this feedback.”
"We are reviewing all the ideas and suggestions received to date and will provide an update on our plans in the near future."
This may include plans for a boat-based restaurant which drew a mixed reactions in posts on the Sandstone Point Marina Facebook page.
The marina responded on the post by saying: “We may instead create space for the local commercial fishermen to tie up and sell to the community. Rest assured we’re looking at all options.”
Questions were also raised, in more than 120 comments across two posts, about changing the marina name and the number of car parks in the planned apartment development.
The apartments would be where the hard stand and dry stack are currently situated. Sandstone Point Marina said on the post: “We are actively looking at alternative solutions for boat owners currently using dry stack.”
Cr Brooke Savige praised Ignite Projects' approach saying: “I’ve never seen a developer come to the community prior to lodging a DA.
"I commend them for doing this and wanting to hear your thoughts front and centre.”
A development application for the new apartment building is expected to be submitted to Moreton Bay City Council soon.
