Moreton Bay City Council is spending $1.5 million on a new nature-themed playground at Caboolture Region Environmental Education Centre (CREEC) at Burpengary.

Construction is expected to start in late 2023, at the site along the Burpengary River.

The upgrade aim to help children get active while learning more about Moreton Bay’s natural surroundings.

Mayor Peter Flannery says the upgrades will create a significant offering for locals and visitors coming from far and wide.

“The new play space will attract visitors from across Moreton Bay and wider, improving our ever-growing tourism offering and bringing additional trade to local businesses,” Mayor Flannery says.

Situated on 18-hectares of greenspace, there is plenty of room for improvement, with the first stage including the installation of custom play equipment inspired by the natural environment.

“When phase one is completed in early 2024, we’ll see custom play equipment and nature-based features come together to create a signature park destination for the City of Moreton Bay,” Mayor Flannery says.

“CREEC offers nature walk trails, a community nursery, native beehives, a ‘nocturnal room’, and a café, and supports environmental education and recreation activities for the community.”

The additional phases of the plan include upgrades to the Environmental Education Centre, a new picnic hub, extra car parking and enhanced trails to make them fully accessible.

You can still access existing CREEC facilities at 150 Rowley Road, Burpengary during the construction period.
