A well-known Moreton Bay college, which was founded almost 40 years ago, is to change its name and logo.
In Catholic Education Week (July 26-August 1) Mt Maria College, Petrie has announced it will become St Marcellin Catholic College in January 2027.
Mt Maria Principal Kerry Maher said the new look will reflect the College’s future direction which has been shaped through extensive community consultation.
“We wanted the name to reflect our whole College community,” Principal Maher said.
“Across 2024 and 2025, there was a series of consultations with parents, students, and staff, who all contributed to the conversation about our College’s name change.
“It’s a name we chose together, not only honouring where we’ve come from but also where we are heading as a community.
“With new signage, a new logo, and an updated uniform on the way, there is a sense of real excitement across our community right now.”
Principal Maher said the college, which opened in 1987, is “known for high-quality learning and teaching and commitment to the holistic development of our students.”
“This next chapter gives us the opportunity to express who we are, a College that knows its students well and nurtures young people to grow with confidence, purpose and Hope.”
At the heart of the new name is St Marcellin Champagnat, founder of the Marist Brothers, dedicated to the education of young people worldwide.
“St Marcellin Champagnat envisioned an education that was personal, compassionate and grounded in faith,” Kerry said.
“He championed values that continue to guide us as we look ahead, family spirit, simplicity, presence, love of work, and a commitment to those who need it most.
“These values are not new to us, but will play an even greater role in shaping our future, reflecting our commitment to building on this foundation as we grow and evolve.
“It expresses the Marist identity that will continue to guide our direction in years to come.”
The new St Marcellin Catholic College logo includes the college motto, Lead by Example, with the surrounding crest honouring the College’s history.
Inside the crest, the heart shows the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary and the M A, known as the Auspice Maria, symbolises Mary’s protection,
The Indigenous Bunya Pine is connected to the history and heritage of the local Gubbi Gubbi people and the lantern symbolises the call to be a light for the world.
