A new $3.4 million play and picnic park is set to be finished within weeks – ending a 20-year wait for the Moreton Bay region.
The project, which has been in the works for two decades, will enhance John Bray Park on Walsham St in Bray Park.
Construction started late last year and Bray Park District Park is expected to be ready in October, weather permitting.
It will include an all-ages nature-inspired playground and multi-sport court suitable for basketball and futsal.
There will also be a court for pickleball and badminton, gym equipment, an amenities block, picnic facilities, open space and misting water play features.
About 100 trees have been planted in the beginning of the project.
“The park is shaping up beautifully,” Cr Jim Moloney (Div 8) said in his newsletter, “it’s going to be a wonderful addition for families, kids and community groups.”
“We've also increased tree replanting since the original design, adding over 100 new trees and more than 2500 predominantly native shrubs and groundcovers.
“Many of these additional trees are in 25lt growbags to enhance koala food trees around the site and further upstream along the corridor where existing tree cover is sparser.”
Moreton Bay City Council is also reviewing feedback and creating a concept design for the new Akers Road Park at Lawnton.
When completed it will give 10 times more open space than its smaller neighbour, Allsop Park in Allsop St, which will eventually be decommissioned.
Draft designs were used to help guide discussion and encourage feedback on plans for Akers Road Park.
Concept designs will be shared for further community input later this year, Cr Moloney says.
