New path a boost for cyclists

A new path linking Plucks Rd and Minto Crescent at Arana Hills will improve connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists.

The 110m section through Max Morton Park will consist of a 2.5m-3m wide concrete off-street pathway and stairs and include a push ramp so cyclists can dismount and use the stairs.

Moreton Bay Regional Council awarded the tender for the $1.2 million project to Deception Bay-based Auzcon at last week’s council meeting.

Safer access

The upgrade follows a site meeting with residents in March 2021, where concerns around lighting, pathway width and the exit onto Minto Crescent were raised.

An officers’ report to council says the new path will provide a safer alternative to Dawson Pde for cyclists.

|“The objective of the project is to create a high-quality walking and cycling environment and to encourage increased levels or walking and cycling in and around Arana Hills,” the report says.|

Also included in the project are signs, lighting and rock-lined drains, as well as amendments to driveways adjacent to the entry to the path.

Construction will start in January and is expected to be finished by late May.
