Next steps for Moreton Bay's Olympic centre

Work on Moreton Bay’s new $205 million Olympic and Paralympic venue is gathering pace.

The 10,000 capacity Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre is set to be built at The Mill precinct, close to Petrie station.

Plans released in August show 12 multi-sport courts across two halls for such as basketball, netball, boxing, volleyball, badminton, futsal and wheelchair rugby.

“The Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre Project Validation Report has been completed and procurement activities for the managing contractor with an integrated design team are under way,” a Games Venue and Legacy Delivery Authority spokesperson said this week.

“Construction timelines will be dependent on the terms of reference and resulting recommendations of the Queensland Government’s foreshadowed 100-day review.”

The August update said the managing contractor was expected to be announced this month with construction to start early next year and finish in 2028.

Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre would then be open for community use ahead of the 2032 Games.

However, this is to be confirmed following the change in State Government in last month’s election.

City of Moreton Bay Council is providing the land as well as supporting precinct work and connections at the site.

The venue was originally proposed as a nine-court 7000 capacity centre to host boxing during the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

But, earlier this year it was announced the venue would be half as big again and have two halls.
