Calab Law, the Caboolture-born former Morayfield State High School student, pulled out of the Olympic 200m repechage tonight - to focus on the relays.

Despite initially suggesting he would run the 'second chance' repechage heat two, the decision has since been made to scratch the individual sprint.

It will enable the 20-year-old Mayne Harriers sprinter to measure his workload and concentrate on the 4x100m relay where Australia has a better chance of success,

Law was seventh in heat one this morning, clocking 20.75 seconds – not enough for automatically qualify for the semi-finals.

“It was pretty good,” Law said on Channel Nine at the time, “not the best time, but it happens.

“I’ll do better next round. I think I had a good bend but the last 50m was not there.”

He entered the Paris Olympics with a personal best of 20.42 seconds and season’s best of 20.54, suggesting there’s room for improvement.

Law will now be focussing on the Australian 4x100m relay team's opening round race at 7.35pm AEST on Thursday.

Australia's women's water polo team will bid for a place in the Olympic semi-finals early tomorrow 3am AEST.

The Stingers topped Pool B and now face Greece, who finished fourth in the final qualifying position from Pool A.

Australia's line-up includes Alice Williams and Charlize Andrews from North Brisbane Polo Bears, based at Albany Creek.

Williams is the Stingers' top scorer so far with 11 goals. She is also joint second for the Olympic competition.

London 2012 Olympian Billy Miller says the women will be on a "massive high" going into tomorrow's quarter-finals.

"The Stingers have had a fantastic start to their campaign, undefeated the whole way through," he said on Stan Sport.

"Not only that they have had some close games where they’ve had some draws and had to pull themselves out of a few pickles. The girls are stepping up when it counts.

"They’re scoring goals when it counts and their defence has been absolutely unbelievable, keeping most teams to a sub eight or around eight goals which is the standard of any national team who want to win that gold medal.

"There’s no doubting the girls are on a massive high. They seem to be gelling really well together, winning helps that, and they will take that confidence into the quarters."
