Pasifika Vibes Festival returns

Pasifika Vibes Festival returns to Pine Rivers Showgrounds for the largest immersive celebration of Māori and Pasifika communities.

The festival is being held on May 6 and will showcase a diverse range of cultures, traditional performances, food village offerings and arts and crafts with handmade items, such as clothing, toys, jewellery, cosmetics and much more.

Pasifika Vibes Festival organiser Imeleta Lia-Norris says the annual festival has seen remarkable growth since its beginning in 2011.

“(The festival) is swiftly becoming an iconic event on the regional cultural and events calendars,” she says.

“Vendors are coming from as far away as New Zealand and interstate.

“The addition of a Workshops Village offering interactive workshops along with the Kid's Village ensures a comprehensive cultural experience for all ages.

“From the opening ceremony at 8:30am to the live stage performances and the chance to win spot prizes, the festival is a day of joy, learning, and community.”

Every year, the festival follows a theme; with this year’s theme being ‘Nothing but Positive Vibes.’

“This year's theme, ‘Nothing but Positive Vibes,’ reflects our aim to create an uplifting and enriching environment where the beauty and warmth of Māori and Pasifika cultures are celebrated,” Imeleta says.

“It signifies our commitment to not only raising awareness around the importance of physical and mental health and wellbeing, but also fostering a festival atmosphere filled with positivity, unity, and respect for all cultures.

“(This encourages) attendees to immerse themselves fully in the experience and carry the joyous spirit of the festival with them.

Festivalgoers can also enjoy interactive workshops and exhibition areas for the first time.

“...We will have a Workshop Village, where festivalgoers can engage directly with traditional Māori and Pasifika arts through weaving, printing, and other crafts, learning from skilled practitioners,” Imeleta explains.

“These workshops serve as a bridge between past and present, allowing participants to gain a deeper appreciation of the invaluable skills and traditions that form the cornerstone of Māori and Pasifika identities.

“This initiative underscores our festival's dedication to cultural preservation and education.”
