Big crowds flocked to Redcliffe Show across the weekend making the most of perfect weather and the chance to enjoy traditional show attractions and a lively night entertainment program.

Queensland Governor Dr Jeannette Young officially opened the event on Friday night, detailing the history of the show and reminding the crowd how important local shows are to the community.

She also inspected horses from the Australian Light Horse Association during the official proceedings and was given a tour of exhibits afterwards.

Redcliffe Show Society president Garry Barlow says more than 15,000 people attended the show across the three days – the best attendance figures since 2017.

“The highlight for me was the Governor opening the show on the Friday night,” he says.

Garry had the honour of showing her the cookery, honey, woodwork and schoolwork displays and says she was particularly impressed by the junior cake decorating, and the quality of woodwork and schoolwork.

It was a successful show for many stallholders with some selling out of stock.

Popular attractions among visitors included the $4 million wheelchair-friendly Ferris wheel, the woodchop, horticulture, horse jumping and night entertainment program and fireworks.

He says people enjoyed attending an event free of COVID-19 restrictions.

“Everybody was everywhere. It was really good,” he says.
