Planning done - but no start date

A call for more funding for Moreton Bay's roads comes as the wait goes on for major upgrades to a key arterial road.

Planning has been completed for Deception Bay Rd upgrades – but there’s no indication when the work will begin.

Making the final 3.3km, from Park/Lipscombe Rds intersection to the Bruce Highway, four lanes would complete 9km of dual carriageway.

Pressure has been growing on the major arterial route which is heavily used and often congested at peak morning and evening times.

A Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) spokesperson confirmed plans for the widening of Deception Bay Rd from two to four lanes was complete.

“While upgrades are not planned at this location on Deception Bay Rd currently, all projects are regularly reviewed and re-evaluated against other priorities across the state,” the spokesperson added.

It follows a call from State Member for Bancroft Chris Whiting for more funding in the Moreton Bay region’s road network.

“The former government committed $20 million for early works on Deception Bay Rd – that momentum appears to have stalled under this budget,” he said.

“Our northern suburbs are growing fast and deserve their fair share of road and transport funding.”

Community consultation was held in November and December 2021 with TMR inviting feedback from November 22 to January 2023.

Key features of the project include:

• Fauna fencing
• Signalised and upgraded intersections at Priests Road, Krause Street and Warroo Drive to better manage traffic flows, improve safety and reduce congestion
• New service roads to consolidate access to Deception Bay Road
• Off-road active transport pathways
• A new signalised pedestrian crossing on Deception Bay Road between Park Road/Lipscombe Road and Tallagon Court
• Eight bus stops
