Driver cops hefty fines following police investigation

A 20-year-old man who received multiple speeding infringements totalling around $18,500 is set to appear in court later this month, following a joint investigation between the Road Safety Camera Office and the Road Policing Investigation unit.

A maroon FG Ford Falcon XR6 was detected allegedly speeding and running red lights along Morayfield Road at Morayfield on dozens of occasions over a month long period commencing on February 12.

The car was detected at speeds up to 123km/h in a 60km/h speed zone.

Acting Inspector Donna Stewart from the Road Policing Group says the car was also unregistered and driving without plates.

“The behaviour of this driver is concerning and puts the lives of others at risk,” she says.

“The images of the driver allegedly filming themselves speeding through the camera site indicates they were well aware of their actions.”

The car was then detected on March 15 in Moreton District where the 20-year-old man was arrested and subsequently charged with dangerous driving and evading police.

Officers of the Road Policing Investigation Unit were able to identify the same man as allegedly driving the vehicle on 30 separate occasions through the speed camera fixed speed camera site.

Detailed investigation by police

Acting Inspector Stewart says the detailed investigation was a regular part of the work of the Road Policing Investigation Unit designed to hold this driver to account for his behaviour and protect other road users.

“The tenacious work of our investigative team shows our police will do everything they can to track down offenders and hold those who drive dangerously to account,” she says.

“The message is clear – if you are doing the wrong thing on our roads you will get caught. You can expect to see our police anywhere at any time.”

The man was issued 30 infringements and 201 demerit points, totalling $18,500.

He has also been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on March 25.
