Repairing unsafe car parks - for free

Two Moreton Bay businessmen have launched a free program to tackle unsafe car parks at community organisations, charities, schools and small businesses.
Daniel Mikus and James Rolph – co-owners of road infrastructure company MR Roads in North Lakes - have started a Community Carpark Safety Program.
Available across South-East Queensland, MR Roads collects unused, excess asphalt mix and uses it to such as potholes to repair and upgrade car parks.
This stops the asphalt going to waste and provides a “practical solution that benefits the environment and the community”.
"Potholes and deteriorating carparks pose a serious safety risk to organisations, communities, services and people,” said Daniel, who like James, lives at Newport.
"Unfortunately, carpark maintenance costs can be prohibitive, especially for not-for-profits and small businesses.”
To bridge this gap, MR Roads is donating up to $16,000 of asphalt maintenance services - which equates to repairing around 300 potholes – each month.
"We understand maintaining a carpark is not always a top priority when budgets are tight, but safety should never be compromised,” Daniel said.
“Our goal is to help organisations that need it most, ensuring no one has to risk injury or damage due to unsafe parking areas."
Beneficiaries include Fitness Cartel Health Clubs in Kippa Ring, where a large pothole in its carpark became a hazard to members, staff and visitors.
MR Roads repaired the pothole leading Cecilia Sharpe, from Fitness Cartel Health Clubs, to say the team was “so responsive and amazing to work with”.
“Now our community can access our building without any worry,” she said.
MR Roads has also donated repairs to car parking at Peninsula Power Football Club and is set to help Pine Rivers Golf Club this month.
Schools, essential services, charities and small businesses with dangerous or deteriorating carparks can apply for assistance.
Go to www.mr-roads.com.au/community/ and complete the online form.
Eligible applicants will be contacted by MR Roads to arrange repairs.
