Surging house sales drive need for Moreton Motorway

Surging house sales in Moreton Bay is accelerating the need for a Bruce Highway Western Alternative, says Mayor Peter Flannery.

The Mayor has again called for the congestion-busting project, (aka Moreton Motorway) to be brought forward following data in a new property report.

As revealed by Moreton Daily last week, Caboolture is Queensland’s top suburb for house sales so far in 2026, with Morayfield and Burpengary not far behind.

“The growing popularity of these key growth areas in our great City is further proof we need the Bruce Highway Western Alternative now,” Mayor Flannery said.

“While Caboolture, Morayfield and Burpengary are fantastic places to live, they are all directly next to a stretch of the Bruce Highway where congestion is already at crisis levels.

“We urgently need the Bruce Highway Western Alternative to alleviate congestion and unlock more housing.

“Without it we simply cannot deliver the homes we have planned, including some 30,000 immediately west of Caboolture at Waraba.

“Once again, we are calling on the Federal and State Governments to fund and commit to the expedited delivery of this project by 2032 as the current 2041 timeline is a complete joke.”

The Property Market Update from Proptech firm InfoTrack shows suburbs along commuter corridors leading to Brisbane drove house sales in the first quarter of the year.

Caboolture was again the top spot for house sales in Queensland, with Morayfield sixth and Burpengary eighth.

“When it comes to growth, all roads seem to lead to Moreton Bay, which is why we need the planning stages for the Bruce Highway Western Alternative to be fast-tracked today,” Mayor Flannery said.

Funding to expedite the project is City of Moreton Bay's number one ask in its budget

submissions to State and Federal Governments.
