Severe storm warning: Moreton Bay Region

The Bureau of Meteorology has just issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for South East Queensland, including the Moreton Bay Region. There is the chance of damaging winds and large hailstones.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:40pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Crows Nest. Thunderstorms are moving towards the east to northeast.

They are forecast to affect the area west of Esk, the area northwest of Esk and the ranges between Gympie and Murgon by 6:10 pm and Esk, the D'Aguilar Ranges and northern Lake Wivenhoe by 6:40 pm.

Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.

The warning follows less severe storms earlier today across the region.
