Siblings wow judges at Excellence in Art Design awards

Two talented students from Australian Christian College at Caboolture have impressed the judges of the Excellence in Art Design Awards.

Brother and sister Brooks Zhang and Rayne Zhang received Highly Commended awards in the Independent Education Union – Queensland and Northern Territory (IEU-QNT) competition.

Rayne was highly commended in the Prep-Year 2 category for her entry Tiddalick the Frog, while Brooks received his high commendation in the Years 3-4 section with Achilles and the Tortoise.

The awards attracted more than 800 entries from students and teachers across the Queensland and Northern Territory independent education sector, with entrants submitting art with a theme of ‘New Beginnings’.

IEU-QNT branch secretary Terry Burke said the competition judges were impressed by the calibre of entries across all age groups in response to the theme.

Talent shines through

“The judges commented on the high standard of entries and the varied and creative interpretations that entrants brought to the theme,” Terry said.

“Our union established the awards in 1994 to promote and encourage artistic students and celebrate their flair for creativity.

“Art is a very important area of learning in schools and kindergartens and IEU-QNT is proud to support students, staff and artists in Queensland.”

“Award recipients are to be congratulated for their remarkable achievements.”
