Silver lining for Sophie

Sophie Hebron was back on the podium at the Australian Open Water Championships, bringing home back-to-back medals.
The Albany Creek Swimming Club star won a silver medal in the Girls’15 Years 5km at Busselton, in West Australia.
Hebron was seeded fifth this year and in a tight leading pack for the first three-and-a-half laps of the race.
It came down to a race for the line after the last buoy and Hebron finished 9 secondsa ahead of third place in 1 hour 6 minutes 4.25 seconds.
Her silver medal now sits alongside the gold she won 12 months ago in the 14 years event.
Club colleague Jordi McHugh was in the same race, finishing 19th in 1 hours 9 minutes 38.88 seconds.
Albany Creek’s Haydon Smith was 22nd in the Boys’ 15 Years 5km with a time of 1 hours 8 minutes 20.61 seconds.
Completing the club’s quartet in the West was Cody Robinson, 21st in the Boys’ 16 Years 5km in 1 hour 7 minutes 6.67 seconds.
Coach Brendan Dowling said Sophie Hebron will be competing in next month’s Noosa Summer Swim as part of the Swimming Queensland Open Water Development Squad.
Dowling said the event will help develop racing skills in different conditions.
