The State Government has secured land for a $60 million TAFE Centre of Excellence in the City of Moreton Bay.
Located at the Moreton Bay Central site, in Petrie, the land will be transferred from Moreton Bay City Council to the State Government. Construction is expected to start in 2026.
The TAFE Centre of Excellence will include an Advanced Manufacturing Hub, supporting Moreton Bay’s billion-dollar manufacturing industry and creating opportunities in high-tech, high-demand sectors.
Using the latest technology, including augmented reality and smart hubs, students will train in state-of-the-art trade workshops and modern learning spaces to graduate job-ready.
Its location – adjacent to the future Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre, a key venue for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games – positions it as a strategic investment in the region’s long-term growth.
The Moreton Bay TAFE Centre of Excellence is one of four being delivered under the Government’s $201.1 million plan to “rebuild Queensland’s skills pipeline”, alongside Caloundra, Rockhampton and Southern Moreton Bay Islands.
Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Minister Ros Bates says the Moreton Bay Centre of Excellence is a cornerstone of the plan to boost skills training.
“The Moreton Bay TAFE Centre of Excellence will deliver world-class training in industries that drive our economy and create good jobs for Queenslanders. We’re backing Moreton Bay with the skills, facilities and opportunities locals need to thrive,” Minister Bates says.
Manufacturing Minister Dale Last says the centre will be a “launchpad for the next generation of manufacturers”.
“Manufacturing is Queensland’s sleeping giant, and the Crisafulli Government’s investment in this Centre reflects our commitment to creating the skilled workforce needed to drive it forward,” Minister Last says.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery says the Centre of Excellence will create valuable educational opportunities close to home for many residents.
“Council is proud to be offering the land required to support this new TAFE, which will provide education and jobs in our rapidly growing City,” he says.
“We know locals want to study and work closer to home and the TAFE will be located at the Moreton Bay Central site near UniSC’s Moreton Bay campus, which is in close proximity to public transport and industry and offers opportunities for collaboration between the TAFE and university.
“We thank the Queensland Government for investing in this new TAFE, which will upskill our workforce to meet the needs of local businesses, including in our booming manufacturing industry, and provide jobs in the future.”
TAFE Queensland SkillsTech General Manager Stephen Gates says securing the site is the first step toward delivering a tailored training facility across the Moreton Bay region.
“This Centre of Excellence is a game-changer for Moreton Bay, giving local people access to the advanced, hands-on training that employers are calling for,” he says.
“This purpose-built facility will be designed to meet the skills needs of today and tomorrow, driving local jobs, innovation, and economic growth.”
Councillor Jim Moloney (Div 8) says the Centre of Excellence reinforces Moreton Bay’s reputation as a growing education and technology hub.
“The career and learning opportunities that a Centre like this presents for our city’s young people cannot be understated. The sky is the limit,” he says.
“I’ve got no doubt there’s an exciting future ahead for Moreton Bay’s workforce.”
