Hockey - Renee Taylor

9pm: Australia has beaten Japan 1:0 in a hard fought match at Oi Stadium.

Renee Taylor, who played for Redcliffe Leagues Hockey Club as a junior, played a tough game, and was sent off twice in the fourth quarter - both times after clashing with a Japan player.

Taylor had already helped the Hockeyroos to the top of Group B in Tokyo with victories over Spain (3-1) and China (6-0).

Hockey star Renee Taylor is the only local Olympian in action today when Australia's women take on Japan at 7.30pm (AEST) in the Oi Hockey Stadium.

Taylor, who played for Redcliffe Leagues Hockey Club as a junior, has helped the Hockeyroos to the top of Group B in Tokyo with victories over Spain (3-1) and China (6-0).

Japan are winless from two games but lost by the narrowest of margins to China (4-3) and New Zealand (2-1) Australia is top of the table.

Despite being based in Perth, Taylor still goes back to Redcliffe Hockey Club, including making a surprise visit to train last year!

The Hockeyroos are in Pool B with Argentina, New Zealand, Japan and China. Pool A has Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Canada, South Africa. 

The top four from each group go into the knockout quarter-finals.
