Turning pump station from brick to chic

A Unitywater water pump station in Caboolture has turned the spotlight onto our vulnerable lesser-known species.
The pump station on Beerburrum Rd has become a canvas for the utility’s Community Art Program, turning a wall from brick to chic.
“Turning our assets into art is a creative way to connect the work we do with the community,” Unitywater Executive Manager Strategic Engagement, Joshua Zugajev, said.
“This transformation was a great opportunity for the community to get involved and enhance their beautiful environment by voting on which design they’d like to see brought to life.”
Caboolture residents were given the opportunity to choose which creatures were featured on the pump station.
They decided on the Wallum Sedge Frog, Wallum Rocket Frog, Spotted-tailed Quoll and Swift Parrot.
Artist David Houghton, who painted the mural, said his previous projects had a similar goal - bringing awareness to species that could become endangered.
“Rather than painting typical animals that are always getting painted, I wanted to draw attention to more endangered species,” Mr Houghton said.
“Thanks to Unitywater for having me paint one of their assets. I hope everyone enjoys it.”
